welcome guests

Bethel Assembly of God (originally known as Bethel Temple) was founded by Ira Stanphill and his wife. Bethel’s first service took place in the Lake Worth Civic Auditorium with 75 people in attendance. Ira sold his Cessna plane to help purchase the property at 1132 16th Avenue N. in Lake Worth, and a dairy man, Morris Foster gave much to help. The church was built quickly because of a group of about 40 businessmen from Michigan who helped, worked, and gave much.
The following pastors were anointed and used of God to direct this great church, each one doing a special work for His kingdom.
Rev. Ira Stanphill
Rev. John Wilkerson
Rev. EW Zilch
Rev. William Wynn
Rev. Wildon Gosnell
Rev. Jerry Wade
Rev. Mike Brummitt
In 1975 under the leadership of Rev. Gosnell the property on 16th Avenue was sold to Steve Moore Chevrolet and the present property at 4320 South Congress Avenue was purchased. The new church was completed in 1977.
In 1988 the congregation was led to pay off the remaining mortgage of 250,000 and with the Lord’s blessings were able to burn the mortgage twenty months later in 1990.
An additional 1.96 acres of land was purchased north of the church in October 1990 and another acre was purchased in February 1991 which joins these properties together.
In late 1995, 18 acres of land west of the turnpike on Lake Worth Road was purchased for future expansion of Bethel Assembly of God. The land was purchased for 560,000 and was paid for in 2001.
